The charter scene here covers a wide spectrum. Understanding what is available helps you choose the right experience for your group.

Day Sail (Half or Full Day): The most popular option for villa guests. A half-day charter runs roughly 4 hours, a full day 7-8 hours. You will typically sail along the coast, anchor at Colombier or Gouverneur for swimming and snorkeling, and enjoy lunch aboard. Most boats accommodate 6-12 guests comfortably. This is the sweet spot for families and groups who want a memorable day without committing to an overnight.

Sunset Cruise: A 2-3 hour evening sail, usually departing around 4:30 PM. Champagne, canapes, and the golden hour over the Caribbean Sea. These are perfect for couples or for the first evening of a group trip - a shared experience that sets the tone for the week. Some of our guests book one every other evening.

Multi-Day Charter: For guests who want to explore beyond St Barth, multi-day charters open up the neighboring islands. Anguilla, St Martin, the British Virgin Islands. These require larger vessels with cabins and crew, and they transform your trip into something closer to a private expedition.

Sport Fishing: Deep-sea fishing charters operate year-round, targeting marlin, wahoo, mahi-mahi, and tuna. The waters around St Barth are genuinely productive, and several local captains have decades of experience in these currents. Half-day and full-day options are available.

What Does a Yacht Charter Cost in St Barth?

Pricing varies significantly based on the vessel type, duration, and season. Here are realistic ranges so you can budget accordingly:

Sunset cruise (2-3 hours): 1,500-4,000 euros for the boat, typically including champagne and light bites. Catamarans and sailboats sit at the lower end; motor yachts at the higher end.

Half-day charter (4 hours): 3,000-8,000 euros depending on the vessel. This usually includes an open bar, snorkeling equipment, and water toys. Lunch may or may not be included - clarify when booking.

Full-day charter (7-8 hours): 5,000-15,000 euros. A full day typically includes a gourmet lunch prepared on board, premium beverages, and access to all water toys - paddleboards, jet skis, snorkel gear, inflatables.

Multi-day charter: Weekly rates for crewed motor yachts start around 30,000 euros for a 60-foot vessel and escalate from there based on size and luxury level. Superyachts are a different conversation entirely.

During peak season - Christmas through early January and around Carnival - demand is extremely high. The best boats book months in advance. If you are visiting during the holidays, tell us early.

The Best Routes and Destinations

St Barth's coastline is only 24 kilometers, but it packs an extraordinary variety of scenery into that compact frame. Here are the routes we recommend most:

The Colombier Run: The default day trip. Leave Gustavia harbor, run north along the coast to Colombier, anchor for the swim and the snorkel (turtles are usual on the rock line to the west), lunch on board, back by mid-afternoon. Half day is enough if you skip the lunch, full day is the standard package.

The Full Island Circuit: For a full-day charter, circumnavigating the island gives you perspective you cannot get any other way. You will see the dramatic cliffs of the windward side, the hidden beach at Gouverneur, the runway at St Jean where planes skim the hillside, and the quiet northern bays where the island feels untouched.

St Barth to Anguilla: A popular multi-day add-on. Anguilla is roughly 90 minutes by motor yacht and offers spectacular beaches, excellent restaurants, and a completely different vibe - more laid-back, more Caribbean. Many guests combine a few nights at their St Barth villa with a day anchored off Anguilla.

Choosing the Right Vessel

The boat matters more than most people realize. Here is a quick guide:

Sailing catamaran: Stable, spacious, and great for families. Less rolling than a monohull, with wide deck space for lounging. The sailing experience itself - the sound of wind, the quiet of cutting through water without engines - is genuinely special.

Motor yacht: Faster, more luxurious in terms of amenities, and better for guests who prioritize comfort over sailing. Air-conditioned interiors, more powerful sound systems, and typically more water toys. The trade-off is engine noise and fuel costs.

Classic sailboat: For purists. Nothing matches the romance of a traditional sailboat heeling in the trade winds. Less deck space, more adventure. Best for smaller groups of 4-6.

Morning departures are best. The trade winds typically pick up in the afternoon. If you want calm water for swimming and snorkeling, leave early. If you want an exhilarating sail, go later.

Bring reef-safe sunscreen. St Barth takes marine conservation seriously, and several anchorages are protected areas. Reef-safe formulas are available on island, but packing your own ensures you are prepared.

Coordinate with your private chef. Some of our guests have their villa chef prepare a picnic lunch to bring aboard, giving them restaurant-quality food on the water without the markup of yacht catering. It is a clever move.
