YOUR ST BARTH / vs Mustique
Personal villa agent comparing St Barthélemy and Mustique for a Caribbean villa rental.
Two of the most exclusive villa islands in the Caribbean, very different in feel. Mustique is private, twelve-villa-rental-only, owned by the Mustique Company, with a single beach club, a single small village, and the famous evening cocktail party. St Barth is also exclusive but bigger, with a hundred restaurants, a real harbor, and four hundred plus villas to compare. The right choice depends on what you want from the trip.

/ St Barth or Mustique
Mustique is the private island experience. Owned by a single entity, fewer than a hundred villas total, no public dining outside of Basil's and the Cotton House, no boutiques, no harbor. The pace is slow, the discretion is absolute, and the cost reflects that. The trip is about disappearing.
St Barth is also exclusive but more alive. The harbor of Gustavia is a real harbor with megayachts, the restaurant scene rivals any city in Europe, the boutiques are present, and the rental inventory is more than four times Mustique. The trip is about being part of the scene without the scale of a Saint Tropez.
If you want to disappear, Mustique. If you want exclusivity with restaurants and shops, St Barth. Many guests do one then the other across two trips.

/ St Barth vs Mustique FAQ
Both require a connection. St Barth via Saint Martin SXM (ten minute flight or thirty minute boat). Mustique via Saint Vincent SVD (twenty minute flight on a small charter). St Barth is generally easier to access from the US east coast and from Europe, with more daily flight options to SXM.
Comparable at the top tier, with Mustique slightly higher on average because the inventory is smaller and the demand is concentrated. St Barth has a wider range, with more options at the lower end of the luxury market thanks to the larger total inventory.
St Barth, by a wide margin. Mustique has Basil's and the Cotton House dining, both excellent but limited. St Barth has more than fifty restaurants, from beach clubs to fine dining (Le Toiny, Bonito, L'Isola, Eden Rock).
St Barth has more variety: protected lagoon (Grand Cul-de-Sac), long beach (Flamands), kid-friendly water sports, and a more practical infrastructure. Mustique is calmer but less diverse for kids who want activity.
Mustique. The whole island is essentially private. St Barth is exclusive but it is a real island with public roads, a port, and other tourists. If maximum privacy is the priority, Mustique wins.
